zuup Becomes First Partner to Go Live on New Pole-Mounted EV Chargers
Melbourne - 11 March 2026
zuup, Australia’s driver-first EV charging platform, is proud to be the first network partner to make CitiPower’s new pole-mounted chargers available for public use through zuup Roam.
Electricity distributor CitiPower has installed the first eight pole-mounted chargers across Hawthorn and Kew - the beginning of a broader rollout of 100 chargers across the CitiPower, Powercor, and United Energy networks. These chargers are now live and ready to use on the zuup Roam app.
Solving the Urban Charging Challenge
For many Aussie EV drivers, especially in inner suburbs, charging at home isn’t always an option. No driveway. No garage. No charger.
That’s exactly what this rollout is solving.
With EVs now making up around 13% of new car sales in Australia, access to simple, reliable kerbside charging is becoming critical. These new chargers are installed directly on existing power poles - bringing charging closer to where people actually live.
Each site delivers up to 22kW of power and can be accessed across multiple charging networks, including via zuup Roam - through the app or zuup Pass RFID - giving drivers more choice and flexibility.
Dan Bye, Head of Customer Connections at CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy, said:
“We can deliver faster, more reliable pole-mounted EV infrastructure while potentially avoiding network upgrades by dynamically controlling the chargers. Drivers are desperate for more chargers and pole-mounted technology is available, so we will install these chargers and help more Victorians switch to an electric vehicle.”
Smarter Charging for the Network
These new charging points offer more than just a plug; they are designed to support network reliability. The chargers can adjust how much power they use depending on network conditions, allowing vehicles to draw on rooftop solar when electricity is plentiful and slowing charging during periods of high demand.
James Kleine, Founder and Managing Director at zuup, added:
"We are excited to be the first eMSP to go live on this trial. By integrating these pole-mounted chargers into the zuup platform, we are helping urban drivers access the infrastructure they need in the places they live and work. It’s a significant step toward making EV charging simple and accessible for all Melburnians."
